eLibertarian
eLibertarian is a community website where libertarians meet and trade. As David Friedman writes in the chapter "How to get there from here" in The Machinery of Freedom one way of promoting the free society is to develop the institutions of the free market. eLibertarian hopes to be part of that.
Not only do we want to provide a useful service in facilitating voluntary free trade and other contacts between libertarians, we also wish to promote freedom on the Internet and globally by generating and supporting free market activity through innovative technological solutions.
Although there are many other market sites on the Internet, we hope that by offering a market and community specifically for libertarians, in the context of a libertarian philosophy, we can develop and popularize mechanisms of Internet trade consistent with the free market philosophy.
Libertarianism
Libertarians are people who agree with and abide by the political philosophy of libertarianism.
Libertarianism is the consistent form of classical liberalism. Libertarians respect that every person has the right to do with his person and property as he pleases. No person has the right to initiate force or commit fraud against another person.
These basic individual rights imply a fully free market, or a pure form of capitalism - Laissez-Faire Capitalism.

How eLibertarian works
Anybody can read and post messages in the "community" areas: Articles, News, Events, Jokes, Forum, Chat. You don't have to signup as a (free) member to fully participate.
However, if you want to post or respond to ads in one of our
"markets" you need to signup as a free
member.
We currently offer the following markets: libertarian goods, services,
jobs, dating, friends, lodging. You don't have to signup to read or
search the ads in any of the markets.
You can always edit or delete any of your ads in one of the 6
markets. A post in one of the 6 other categories cannot be edited or
deleted.
To place a new ad in a market you need to go to your item overview. Messages in one of the other
categories can be posted by clicking on the Post item button
from the respective category.
What to post
The jobs, goods, services, etc. that you post do not have to be of
a specifically libertarian nature, although of course it's nice if
they are. But you can just sell your TV, offer computer programming
services, and any other common things you want. You don't only have to
be selling only libertarian buttons.
The markets are called libertarian markets, because this site is based
on free market principles and is meant to be used by libertarians, and
we wish to offer libertarians the opportunity to meet and trade with
other freedom loving individuals.
The other categories, such as libertarian news, articles and events
are meant for specifically freedom-related items.
How to conduct transactions
When you become a member, you can respond to ads of other
libertarians directly via their email address or website. You are
fully responsible for your own dealings, risks, choices, etc. and are
free to make any kind of deals, contracts, etc. based on mutual
consent.
Payment methods for services or goods are the sole responsibility and
choice of those involved in any transactions. For quick and easy
payments over the Internet you might find the privately issued
electronic gold currencies such as e-gold or Pecunix useful.
You can buy and trade e-gold at
Cambist.net.
Although we hope libertarians can be trusted, we make do not and
cannot guarantee that all participants on this site are honest or that
they are libertarians, as it is a fully open automated system. To
limit your risks, especially for large transaction amounts, you may
elect to use an escrow service such as Escrow.com.
About us
eLibertarian was created by Henry Sturman of Sturman Enterprises. The site became active
on 7 September 2002. eLibertarian originated from the idea of
Libertarian Lodging by Otto Vrijhof, who
proposed to create a website to help libertarians find cheap lodging
in libertarian homes worldwide.
Henry Sturman decided to add 5 other
markets and 6 other categories to Otto Vrijhof's Libertarian Lodging
idea. The original eLibertarian logo and drawings were created by Erik van Glabbeek of Inspire Art Gallery.
On 9th July, 2003, eLibertarian was sold (on an auction hosted on
eLibertarian itself) as part of the ISIL World Conference in
Lithuania, to Qeng Ho, a software company founded by Libertarians.
The website was extensively redesigned, and the original paid
memberships discontinued. The redesigned eLibertarian website was
unveiled on January 1, 2004.
